Chris Spera knew things were bad; but he didn't know things were that bad.*The new job was stressful, yes; but at least he was weathering it ok.*He had no idea that things were as bad as they were for his iPAQ. It took a drastic measure like suicide on his iPAQ's part for him to notice.*Yes, suicide!
Read More: Post Cards from the Edge Part 1: Goodbye Cruel World!

My iPAQ has made several suicide attempts, but hasn't succeeded.
The worst attempt was one day when I was racing my daughter. As we ran, I think her arm bumped against me and knocked my iPAQ 3870 out of its iHolster. I watched in horror as it fell 3 feet or so screen side down on the concrete sidewalk and skidded quite a ways.
When I picked it up, everything seemed to work fine, and there weren't even many scratches. I think I owe that partially to my iPAQ being in its dual PCMCIA card sleeve. The runners on the sleeve kept the body from rubbing on the sidewalk, I suspect.
My 3870 has also survived a few falls from my Mustang's windshield onto the console and floor. I use the Pocket CoPilot GPS sleeve, and have had the suction cup mount fail, causing those falls.

I just heard about someone who left their Pocket PC on the roof of their car and had it fall off on the freeway. Some motorist found it later and returned it, and it still worked (it was in a case).

Thanks! I appreciate the compliment. I've been working quite closely with the guys at PPCTechs, and I'll have a totally UNRELATED follow up column relating to a new development with a completely DIFFERENT device.
In short, these guys are so friggin' awesome! But I don't want to get ahead of myself. Look for installment # 2 to hit sometime next week.
Thanks!

Patience my friends.
I'm actually working on finishing this up as we, uh, type. This was one of the best if not coolest things that's happened to me in a while.
I'll be doing my best to get this finished up this weekend and it will hopefully be posted as early as the beginning of next week.
Kindest Regards,
Christopher Spera

Just FYI, all Ultra Clips have a lifetime replacement warranty if they were purchased from us directly, or if they came from Vaja, or innoch, or most other online retailers.
I got my UltraClips when I bought iHolsters from iProducts (http://www.iproductsonline.net/). One clip completely fell apart (the top broke off), and I don't think I even have it anymore. The other got spread so the clip doesn't close all the way.
Can I get a replacement?
Thanks,
Steve

Unfortunately, many people now firmly believe that Christophers iPaq "jumped, yes, JUMPED" off of his Ultra Clip, and, that this is somehow due to a flaw, or defect in the Ultra Clip. That is simply not the case here. Our special blend of plastic resin is meant to be strong, yet not brittle. Getting just the right blend of these two elements is very difficult, to say the least. In adding a very nice metal "tab" to their case, Vaja was attempting to improve their product. I'll never blame a company for that.
Having said all that, I still love my Vaja case! If you own a Vaja case, simply give the Ultra Clip a quick visual inspection once in a while. If it's worn to a point where it looks like it may be a problem soon, just call us for a replacement.

Beau,
I must agree with you. The problem that I have is not the Ultra Clip itself, but the METAL case connector that Vaja used. It wears the plastic nub away on the clip and THAT'S when my case "jumped" off my clip. I was totally unprepared for it. I'll be calling you for replacement clips soon!
Thanks!
