Ed Hansberry of Pocket PC Thoughts has written a great article about the difficulty closing your applications. Go read it, then read my thoughts about the right way to do it.

I completely agree both with the idea that programmers should be allowed to put an "exit" option in their programs and that users should have the option to do either an exit or a send-to-background. It's less of an irritation with the iPAQ because Compaq and now HP include the iTask program which easily allows to to really close and switch between applications. Like Steve, I'd like to see that functionality built into the core OS. I also agree that the tap-and-hold method is the best way to do this.
What I'd like to see is to allow the user to specify what the tap does (either exit or send-to-background), then the tap-and-hold would drop down a task manager that would let you switch applications and exit any or all applications.

An option in the control panel to set task manager options would be a good idea. Of course, the default would be to minimize to be compatible with what's out there now.
