View Full Version : Can't use Skins in 2.0.031 BETA

I can't use any of my old skins in the new BETA. I'm using version 2.0.031 on an iPaq 2215. It's loaded in Main Memory.

Maybe I missed this, but should the new version recognize skins I used in the older version? I define "\My Documents\" as the skin folder, which contains all of the old skins, as well as the new ones. But when I go to options and try select a skin, I only get "TODAY THEME" and "DEFAULT". Nothing else shows up. I tried desginating my old skins directory, which is on my CF Card, as the skins folder, but I get the same thing. NONE of the skins show up on the options screen...

Am I missing something? Is this a new "feature"?

Thanks!

Eddie

Have you tried putting skin folders into \Program Files\SnoopSoft\Dashboard\Skins? That's the default folder, and is working fine for my old skins on an iPAQ 3835, with this beta version.

Yeah, just moved all of my skins into the "Program Files/Snoopsoft/Dashboard/skins" folder, and the only skins that show up in the options is Default and Default Lighter... SO FRUSTRATING. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong... This is the FIRST time I've installed Dashboard on this particular device, since it's only two weeks old, so I shouldn't need to do a complete uninstall and reinstall. But I might try it just to see if it will resolve this.

Scott - any ideas?

Thanks!

eappell, do you organize your skins in folders? I do and I face the same problem. I moved all my Dashboard skins to the iPAQ File Store in a Skins folder I created, and configured the "User Defined Skins Folder" to "\iPAQ File Store\Skins\". All I can see in the drop down skin selection is "<Today Theme>". Currently I'm using the DashMobile skin from Juni and stored it in the folder "\iPAQ File Store\Skins\DashMobile\".

I tinkered around with Dashboard's settings and found out that if I configured the "User Defined Skins Folder" to "\iPAQ File Store\Skins\DashMobile\", tap OK and re-enter Dashboard's settings, I can choose the DashMobile.dsh skin. I have several skins in organized in different folders and to choose those skins, I'll have to repeat the procedure mentioned above.

Try it out.

Hi,

So it sounds like Dashboard is no longer looking through the subfolders for skins? I'll test that out and see.

Ok - I tested it out and I see all skins on my storage card even the ones inside folders. Are you able to reproduce this at all somehow?

Thanks!

I had the same thing - after a soft reset the skins showed up.

I downloaded some new skins and copied thier FOLDERS into the Dashboard/Skins directory and it killed all the skins. Nothing showed in the dropdown. I moved the folders to my SD card and the problem went away.

If I copy them into the skins Directory without the folders they show up.

Thanks Medic - that's a new twist on it that I hadn't thought of. I'll test that out and see what happens.

Yes, if I put all the skin files in the same directory and point DB at that folder, they show up in the dropdown. If they are in sub-folders they do NOT. So this does work, but it can make managing skins a bit unwieldy...

I had that pop up this weekend also. Strange but I have one folder in the default skins location the mini (http://www.pocketpc.cz/appdetail.php?id=5) skin by Glen Eric Reed and Dashboard see's that okay but when I moved in the mini-plus theme (Grape) by the same author everything disappears. Also now that I have moved the mini-plus skin to the CF card ; if I change the user defined skins folder to anything but the default location everthing goes back to just being able to use Today themes with the default .dsh. I guess skinners will have to use unique names for their components until this is fixed one way or the other.

Hello,
I have the beta running on my 5555 and have this same issue.

Though for a workaround it seems that if I refresh Dashboard or advance/go back to another date, the skins (in the snoopsoft/dashboard/skins dir) will be selectable again.

Forgot to mention what a great app Dashboard is. I cant do without it.

Well I think I finally was able to reproduce this one. Oddly enough it never happened on my older iPaq no matter how hard I tried or what skins I tested with (including some mentioned in this thread).

But the Pocket PC 2003 iPaq I have did end up exhibiting this problem and I have hopefully tracked it down and should have it fixed in the next update.

Thanks for everyone's help in trying out various scenarios with this odd one.
