I decided to uninstall Dashboard because it seems to have slowed things down quite a bit since I installed it. So I uninstalled it, restarted my iPaq 2215 and the system won't restart. It gets stuck at the bootup screen. So I did a hard reset, resotred from backup, then uninstalled again. I get the same result. I've tried it several different times but get the same result each time. I can run with DB and the system seems to be stable, just a bit slower than without it. But as soon as I remove it from the system I crash and have to do a hard reset to get back to usability.

The only thing I can think of doing is doing a hard reset, then either NOT doing a restore or doing a resotre and leaving DB on... Either way, it shouldn't work like that...

Hi,

One thing you can do is to rename the .DLL files in the Dashboard folder and soft-reset your device. At that point Dashboard is no longer loaded or loading and you should be able to delete them if it will boot up for you.

I just uninstalled it from my iPaq 2215 and it seems to be working OK for me.

One final thing I will say to your other comments though:
As part of the skin errors soft-resetting the device, it was caused by a memory issue in the skin code. Nothing that Dashboard is doing as much as just moving the same pieces of code around to different spots to fix it. As I was doing this I took a close look at the memory that Dashboard itself (not the various modules yet) is using and went through all of it from beginning to end removing anything that was not absolutely necessary to hold onto in memory. The next release of the beta will have a smaller memory footprint because of this and hopefully will run even faster with some luck. :)

Obviously since I am holding less in memory some tasks will be slower - like some Options things that need to be loaded to view the dialog. Dashboard was holding a lot of the Options settings in memory even though they were only used for the Options dialog itself.

Thanks!

Thanks Scott!

I did what you suggested and that worked.

I'll be anxious to try out the next Beta...
