It got an update from Microsoft and Chris De Herrera about this, this morning. Microsoft has released Service Pack 4 to all Pocket PC hardware manufacturers. EUU4 fixes multiple problems that have been reported, including some networking issues. Service Pack 4 actually replaces some of the flash rom programs so no additional RAM is required after the installation is completed.

To install EUU4, You will need 16 MB of free RAM. If you don't have it, you're going to have to create the free space before you install. Service Pack 4 includes all the updates from Service Packs 1-3, so you can install Service Pack 4 and get all the updates. Since this is a ROM update, once its installed, you can't uninstall it.

Compaq/HP, Casio, Dell, Fujitsu-Siemens, NEC, Toshiba, T-Mobile, and URThere have yet to release EUU4 updates. However, many of us will be watching update pages from these OEM's over the next few weeks.

Please check back often for word on EUU4 updates for your device, as pocketnow.com will post on their availability as soon as we hear about it!

As far as I know, all EUUs are ROM updates. However, that doesn't imply additional RAM won't be required -- as the Pocket PC 2002 upgrade proved. Of course, an EUU is less extensive, so I doubt it will require additional RAM, but I'm a nit picker. :)

I am kind of surprised that Microsoft is releasing a Pocket PC 2002 service pack with Windows Mobile 2003 out, but I guess that's good -- it shows they're supporting their existing customers. Let's hope the OEMs do the same.
