Rumors begone, the truth be told - HP has released the iPaq 4150 and 4350. For those not paying attention, these are 1945-sized devices with all of the power of the 555x built-in (Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless, thought not the 128 megs of ram or the biometric security). The 4150 is a dead ringer for the 19xx series, while the 4350 takes a different direction and includes an illuminated QWERTY thumboard. I'll leave the details for you to read in the following link, which goes right to the HP PDF file.

(Note as with all HP's, there will be models sold through retail channels with numbers ending in 5 and models sold through business channels with numbers ending in 0 (4155 vs 4150), collectively refered to with an "x" in the last digit (415x).)

The 415x (no keyboard) is available immediately through various channels including hp shopping (http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirect/shopping/scripts/product_detail/product_detail_view.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@108568065 2.1066046499@@@@&BV_EngineID=cceeadcjjdgjjdgcfngcfkmdflldfgf.0&product_code=FA175A%23ABA&cat_level=1&browse_link=true).

The 435x (with keyboard) should be available in November.

The 415x features a 1000 mAh battery with an optional 1800 mAh battery. The h435x includes a 1560 mAh removable battery and offers an optional 3600 mAh battery. That and the backlit keyboard are the primary selling points of the 435x model. Other specifications include an Intel PXA255 XScale processor running at 400 MHz, 32 MB of Flash ROM (up to 2.8 MB available as a File Store) combined with 64 MB of RAM (of which 56 MB is available to users), 3.5", 16-bit transflective TFT displays capable of displaying up to 65,536 colors. HP spokesfolk have varified that these models do not have the yellow-tinted display that was an issue in some 1900 iPAQs.

Both models also feature both BlueTooth and WiFi built-in. WiFi support includes VPN software and WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) support, as well as LEAP (Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol) and 802.1x. There is also a wireless LAN power management feature built in.

Comparing this unit to the 221x and 555x is fairly likely. These units lack the Compact Flash slot of the 221x but add built-in WiFi. They offer both BlueTooth and WiFi built-in like the 555x, but lack the ability to use sleeves that marks the legacy form-factor of the 555x. In other words, the built-in SDIO-capable slot allows expansion with SD or MMC memory cards as well as SDIO periferal products but these units do not have either sleeves or Compact Flash expandability.

Hi,

Well, they do look amazing, but I still dont think that it will be worth the upgrade from a H5450 - My dual CF and SD (yep 3 memory slots) just has to win, and of course the fingerprint ;)

The 2 models do look amazing though, and I think they should do better than the Dell's - well, in my opinion anyway.

And don't forget that the iPAQ 5550 has 128 MB RAM.

But that 4350 looks very cool. :)

Well, they are the sweetest daym things ever. No buy for me until they have something similar, but with GPRS or CDMA. I want an all-in-one device.. none of this carrying around my phone AND pda AND wallet. I just want the pda with a case that can double as a mini-wallet. Then, I just carry ONE thing with me, not 3.
