When the specifications of HP's new 4100 series iPAQs were revealed, a number of people commented on how HP had managed to fit WiFi and BlueTooth into a much smaller package. Some wondered if the unit would suffer from feedback problems or other issues with having two radio-based technolgies, sharing the same freqencies. It doesn't, and the reason it doesn't is due to advances in technology from Texas Instruments.

HP's 4100 series includes TI's new Bluetooth/WLAN coexistence package. Instead of trying to isolate the two technologies from each other, TI chose to make them "talk to each other," negotiating traffic between the two to eliminate interferrence. That means that the coexistence package doesn't require shielding and other isolation technolgies that haven't worked as successfully in the past. TI also built the hardware around using as little power as possible, especially in standby mode. Even though the 4100 series features larger capacity batteries than their 1900 counterparts, this is welcome news.
