HP has just released a ROM update for the 555x iPAQ. The update is an execute in place (XIP) update so it does not require or perform a hard-reset to your device when it's installed. The update has a number of bug fixes and a few enhancements. Those include:

Fixes
- Fingerprint Software Version 3.7:
* Fixes issue where it allowed to select alphanumeric characters using the softkey with the “simple 4 digit PIN” option for Password.
* Fixes the 12 and 24 hours option where it could not be selected in the “Prompt if device unused for” field under Password.
- Bluetooth Driver Version 1.4.1.58:
* Fixes a problem where system would lock up when disconnecting a PAN connection via the Incoming Connection icon.
* Fixes a problem where the device needed a Normal Reset after being turned off while transferring data via SPP, for example, while connected to a Bluetooth GPS device.
* Fixes the proxy settings getting erased in the Bluetooth Settings.
* Fixes a problem when using 'Dial via Bluetooth' which would not accept spaces in the phone number.

- Fixes an issue where the iPAQ unit did not wake up to perform a scheduled iPAQ Backup.

Enhancements
- Wireless LAN Driver Version 3.2.2.123:
* Improves Connectivity and Roaming ability for wireless LAN users.

Since the 221x iPAQ also has some of the same issues, it's likely that a 221x ROM update will be out shortly to address them.

Addendum:

If you've installed one of the WiFi Firmware updates, it may interfere with the WiFi updates in this update.
So, it looks like you should do the following before installing:

1) Turn off WiFi.
2) Rename vnetusba.dll (in the /Windows folder) to vnetusbaold.dll. You'll probably have to use ActiveSync's Explore function to do this as File Explorer on the Pocket PC won't see .dlls.
3) Soft-reset the machine.

Do the update. Then...

1) Take the battery out for 20 seconds just to be sure.
2) Do a soft-reset.
