The Bluetooth Special Interest group has finally announced the recent approval of an updated version to their Bluetooth Specification.

The new version 1.2 will include a new technology known as Adaptive Frequency Hopping which will work to correct some of the issues with interference between devices operating in the 2.4 GHz range. AFH will work within the available spectrum to insure that it will not overlap frequencies with other devices such as WiFi enabled products, cordless phones, and so on.

"The Bluetooth Core Specification Version 1.2 adaptive frequency hopping feature opens up possibilities for complimentary wireless technologies to coexist in devices such as PCs, PDAs, and mobile phones," said Gartner Inc.'s Wiliam Clark.

The Bluetooth 1.2 specification is fully backward combatible with Bluetooth 1.1 devices, which is instrumental in keeping previous Bluetooth users from being alienated.

Finally, Bluetooth 1.2 includes better handling of voice connections, dubbed Enhanced Voice Processing, using error detection methods when in noisy environments.
