Well, my iMATE Phone Edition XDA II arrived this morning. It is quite an amazing little device! It seems the ones being sold in the UAE are the only SIM unlocked ones which can be used on any network. O2 and T-Mobile are selling theirs locked. Using a bluetooth headset with the XDA II is a joy!
A week previous to today I thought I'd upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 on my iPAQ 3970 and use a bluetooth Ericsson r520 phone with it. I am so happy to be back to a fully integrated all-in-one device!

Ok... I've got a bad case of PPC Envy! Hope you can get a review of this together quick! I'm anxious to hear what you have to say about it.

Kind Regards,

Oh sure, rub it in. :) I want one, but didn't want to take a chance and order it from germany. How muc was it?

I do have some questions:
1) can you use .wav or .mp3 file as a ring tone? It would be neat to use the Sony P900 ring sounds.

2) Do you have the new MS voice command? Does it work with the BT headset where I can use the headset to send commands?

3) Can I assosiate pictures to phone numbers? Ie: Sony 616 phones can save a picture so when a caller calls in, it shows his picture.

4) Is it a safe battery life? I may use the phone for 15mins a day and my pda for a while. Am I good for at least 3 days off the charger?

I just got my XDA II in Hong Kong which is a 02 phone and its not locked either, brought it back to Taiwan and works fine. I can answer your questions startstresk.

1.yes
2.yes
3.yes
4.yes, I can use my old XDA for at least 2-3 days with no problem so im sure the XDA II has better battery life than the old XDA. It also depends on much you use your pda but it does have good battery life.

When I got my XDA II I felt like the old XDA was a piece of junk :) With XDA II having much more features like BT, triband, more colors 65k and camera it also weighs much less! You can really tell the difference in colors compared to the old XDA. This device rocks, period! Now my friend who was never into pda's wants one now after he saw mine. The camera is not just a typical camera that you see that comes with cell phones like the Nokia 6600 but its like a true digital camera with bunch of options like effects, image cropping...etc Get one and you wont regret it :)

The moment someplace in Hawaii gets it, I'll buy it. Sounds like a mirge of my Ipaq2215 and my Sony 610 cell phone. :)

Adamz,

Nice and easy background on your iMate. Where can I download this theme?

By the way. do youi have problems with:

- IA caller ID
- usable memory (now just 16mb te be used)
- conecting to BT GPS

regards,

Ralph

Yes there are problems with usable memory. Hopefully there will be a service pack to address this problem. Photo ID works fine as long as you have enough available memory (less than 16Mb used program memory). I don't have a Bluetooth GPS reciever, but I hear other people have major problems with that. Hopefully there'll be a fix.

Battery life has been fine. I used it for about 2 days without charge and it only went down to 50 something percent.

You can use WAV or MIDI files for ring tones. Not WMA or MP3.

I'm working on a review, this is a very exciting device. The coolest thing is using a bluetooth headset!

I don't have an SD WiFi card either, but I hear this will work flawlessly.

The theme that I designed there will be available in the Themes section here soon.

Hi,

Well, a couple have been advertised in the UK, but I don't think that i will part from my HP H5450 / Nokia 3650 combination. I have this working pretty much the way I want it to - I also prefer two devices - just from the fact that sometimes I dont want to carry a phone or my PDA around. It also means that if one goes wrong, I will still have to other to work with.

Having said that, I think that this device does look extremely well designed and thought out, and I'm sure that if I could get a company to pay for it and give me unlimited GPRS calls i would love it ;) Maybe not....

Have you compared this to the Samsung SPH-i700 (http://www.samsungusa.com/cgi-bin/nabc/prod/hhcommerce/telecommunications/sph_i700_features_verizon.jsp)? I got the chance to play with one at my local Verizon store, and I would consider getting one (if I had the money :)).

Excluding the antenna, it's about the same size as my iPAQ 3870 without a sleeve, so it's not huge. It also has a rotatable digital camera (so the lens is protected when not in use).

Granted, it's a CDMA phone, so you really can't compare it with a GSM phone. It's also a Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition device and it doesn't have Bluetooth or SDIO (I don't think), but it seemed very cool to me.

I would've gotten the Samsung i700 had it included bluetooth. The XDA 2 looks like a plain old PDA though. There's no antenna to be stabbing you while it's in your pocket. And with a bluetooth headset you never have to hear those ignorant "That's a big phone" remarks. :)
