There's a rumor going around that T-Mobile will offer free GPRS internet to Prepaid customers by the end of the month. See the thread at Howard Forums (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=d4c897b522c86beed60dd22b436be488&threadid=321655). Post-paid T-Mobile customers already do have free unlimited GPRS WAP access which works for web browsing and email.

A prepaid account will cost as little as $10 per month. It also already includes free SMS messages and SMS email. Add free WAP access and you've got an excellent deal on wireless internet. A prepaid account will remain active for 90 days after your prepaid amount has expired at which point you need to add more account credit.

So are you saying that I could pre-pay for $10, never use the account for voice, and I'd basically get free SMS E-mail and GPRS WAP Web access for life?

That would be an incredible deal. :D

The $10 expires after a month. But SMS continues to work for 90 days after that, at which point you put another $10 on it before it goes completely dead. I'm not sure if WAP GPRS will stop working when the credit expires or when the whole SIM card expires. If it works like the SMS messages, then you get 4 months for $10. But even if it expires when your credit expires, $10/mo is still pretty good.

Although, I think I saw somewhere that they changed the SMS charging... maybe only incoming SMS are free after your credit expires.

The only thing with the Free version of WAP GPRS on T-Mobile is it only works with HTTP, IMAP, POP3, and SMTP. If you want to do websites where you have to log into a secure server, or any other applications that need a different port, then you need the full GPRS internet plan.
