Great program, but I've been trying to uninstall the trial version that I downloaded from CNET and it just won't get removed. It doesn't even have any error messages to say why the uninstall won't work. Please help...

Hi,
It's probably because the Today DLL is locked up by the PocketPC OS. If the program is still on your device, try running the Start | Programs | DashHelper program and selecting the 'Remove' button. Next, soft-reset your device.
The uninstall should proceed fine after this.

Thanks for replying so fast.
I did that before and the uninstaller said I had to go to settings then remove program to complete the uninstall. The problem was when I went there. I selected Snoopsoft Dashboard then remove, but it wouldn't do anything.
I hope you can understand what I'm saying. =)

I have a similar problem with uninstalling the trial version. I purchased the registered version today on Handango.com, and wanted to uninstall the trial version first. Whether or not this was required is irrelevant at this point as you'll soon see.
Through several iterations of trial and error and not R(ing)TFM, I'm at the point of not being able to remove the trial software *OR* install the registered version. When I attempt to uninstall I get an error message saying that \Windows\Dashboard.dll could not be deleted because it was in ROM, read-only, or in use. The error message suggests to "Stop All" running programs and try the uninstall again. No joy.
Likewise, when I attempt to install the registered version over what remains of the trial version, I get a similar error indicating that \Windows\Dashboard.dll could not be overwritten.
Somehow, my Dashboard and DashHelper icons got removed in the process, so I cannot use DashHelper to "remove" Dashboard as the default Today screen.
My question is: is there some startup program or registry setting I can modify to allow me to remove Dashboard.dll? I am really not looking forward to a hard reset. Please help.

Hi,
You need to rename the Dashboard.DLL file in your device's \Windows\ folder. Check out the Dashboard FAQ http://www.snoopsoft.com/dashfaq.html (http://www.snoopsoft.com/pocketpc/dashfaq.html) and look up #1.005 for more information on this.
If you do not see the Dashboard.DLL File in your \Windows\ folder it's because the file explorer options are set to hide system files - go into the options and uncheck this box and then you should be able to rename the file.
Once that is done, a soft reset should get it unlocked and then an install should work. I am working on releasing the DashHelper program separately to help clear up this kind of problem.
