Even though i registered Dashboard after evaluating for a while, i didn't realise that the program was using ~2 MB of program memory. Memory being precious on EM-500 i had to completely uninstall it.
I am hoping this is being addressed in the next version.
Can someone verify the program memory usage i am experiencing?

Thanks

Hi Sam,

Yes, this has been a major consideration of the next release and one of the primary reasons that it's taking so long to get it out the door. I've been scouring the code looking for areas where I might not have been using memory appropriately and also for opportunities to reduce the amount of memory that Dashboard is using.

The result is that I've taken the memory use on my iPaq from 2.5MB in version 1.1.009c down to 1.4MB with all modules loaded. Keep in mind that I've got over 300 emails on my device and this is impacting the memory since I have the Mail module loaded also.

Beta testers have reported speedier response times in part I think to the efforts I've placed on memory management in this upcoming release. I'll continue to reduce the memory footprint as I work with each release in order to get Dashboard down to the smallest, fastest possible memory footprint.

Thanks!

Hi Sam,

More good news! I've spent the past several days deep in the bowels of the code and reduced the memory footprint on my iPaq from the 1.4MB that I reported earlier to 750KB!! That's almost 1/2 the usage of the previous beta! Now I need to get this thing into the hands of the beta testers to make sure I didn't break anything... http://www.pocketnow.com/ubb/smile.gif

Chris, does Dashboard 'unload' when you start a game or stay resident? I know that likely depends on the code written for the game, but generally? Can there be a way to suspend it with one button, and restart it, so as to load and unload before starting a game?
Thanks for the clarification on the memory issue....

Hi Chris,
Good Job in reducing the program memory usage. I am happy NOW. Waiting for the release to Registered users.

Thanks again
