I recently started using the XV6700. So far the device has performed perfectly! Prior to this I had the Treo 700w and it would not maintain broadband or cell signal so I returned it for the 6700. Anyhow, my main reason for purchasing the phone was to receive email alerts from our systems monitoring software. I have it configured to download the pop mail but I cannot get it to play a sound when email is received. I have gone into Settings -> Sounds & Notif. -> Notifications. Under Event I chose Messaging:New email message and associated a sound with it. It will not play the sound when a new email arrives. Any ideas?

First, I assume the volume control isn't all the way down, so you are getting other sounds, right?
Second, besides setting the E-mail notification, do you have both the Programs and Notifications boxes checked on the Volume page of the Sounds & Notifications settings applet?
My iPAQ 5550 stopped giving reminder sounds once and it took me several minutes of looking around before I discovered one or both of those settings had gotten unchecked. I think the Pocket PC OS occasionally loses settings, because I know that I wouldn't have intentionally unchecked those.

If you use nPOP or nPOPw, you may edit the INI file to add the path to a WAV file and also edit it to play a notification. For full instructions look here:

Qmail or WebIs mail may also offer such a function.

Thanks for both of your input. The weirdest thing happened. I noticed the device acting funny so I did a soft reset and presto, the email sound notification works! When all else fails REBOOT!
