Our Windows Mobile devices are great for taking movies on the go. Converting movies and DVD to a more pocketable format can be a bit of chore if you don't have the right program. Spb Software has a brand-new solution, and we're one of the first to take a thorough look at a tool that you may find very useful. The new program, Mobile DVD, promises to deliver a solution to meet all of your needs. So is Spb Mobile DVD a box office hit? Read on for the review, hot off the press!
Thanks for the great review.
I'd like to add comments on the product/review as follows:
a) As I own a VGA device (FSC Pocket Loox 720), I'd de interested to know the file size like you did in your table; however you only display values for QVGA results.
b) Since the product includes a "Smooth preview" that makes the conversion slower I would imagine that NO preview would make it faster too. And because one will probably watch the preview for a short while to ascertain the result and do something else after there's no need for a permanent preview. Nero Recode (which backs up DVDs on blank DVDs while compressing the movies) offers this option: you can select/deselect the preview option at any time to watch intermediate results and then deactivate it while you go back to your previous occupation.

Here is a quick comp. between QVGA vs VGA.
Movie: Identity
Runtime: 1:27:34
WMV VGA 25 FPS Quality/Normal = 282 MB's (512x384)
WMV VGA 25 FPS Quality/Normal = 198 MB's
Note when choosing VGA output you dont actually get 640x480. This resolution reduction was implemented by the developers for performance reasons.
On item 2. I would agree. Disable preview to gain conversion speed. Again here, SPB addressed that question on the forum as saying the increase of speed would be "0.001". Basically they dont feel that to disable the preview would have an impact. I would like to test that if possible.
Are the output resolutions fixed?
I saw this app mentionned on a UMPC site and thought that at the maximum DVD resolution it could be a nice DVD ripping tool too.
Ah I just saw this exceptional price reduction on a seemingly very interesting suite of tool: Movavi. (http://www.movavi.com/suite)
You get DVD ripping, video image enhancement tools/filters, splitting and joining tools, etc. all for just $30 (valid till December 25), barely more than this program.
I wonder how fast DVD ripping Movavi can do tho, as Spb Mobile DVD seems very fast.
