The BlackJack comes with some software that usually doesn’t find itself on Windows Mobile devices, such as an integrated chat client for AIM, MSN and Yahoo messengers. Since I’m a frequent AIM user, I was most excited to use the AIM messenger (potentially making traffic jams no longer boring), though even after a hard reset, I was getting communication errors when using it. Perhaps I have an earlier model that doesn’t have the latest ROM. Whichever the case, I wasn’t able to test the messaging service.
Cingular also has a video service, which lets you watch very short clips of TV shows, news, and other bits of entertainment. Having to watch 30 second clips at a time means a lot of clicking around on your device, which makes it a bit tedious. I’ll stick with Orb (http://www.orb.com) or a flash card to watch video. Also included on the device is a trial of an XM radio streamer, which expires in 15 days after using it for the first time.
Other small apps of note include: a stopwatch; converter program for currency, length, weight, and volume; an RSS reader (with very basic functionality; and file viewer called Piscel Viewer for Word documents, PDF’s, PowerPoint presentations, and other types of common files.
