I’ve had a lot of fun over the last few weeks testing the Samsung BlackJack. It’s been the first time that I’ve actually been impressed with a Windows Mobile device - and this statement alone should indicate my feelings towards the device. Nevertheless, here are the Pros, Cons, and final conclusion:
The Good
Thin & light, sexy, comfortable to hold
UMTS connectivity
Scroll wheel has good tactile feedback
Good suit of software
The Bad
Proprietary power and headphone port
No WiFi,
Scroll wheel isn’t customizable
Poor battery life
I said it on Day 1, and it deserves repeating: The Samsung BlackJack i607 is by far the most caressable and impressive-looking Windows Mobile device that I’ve ever seen. Compared to what’s out there, it would win a beauty contest. And it’s not all show – the BlackJack delivers with solid performance, UMTS connectivity, and great usability features. The fact that it’s lacking some essentials such as good battery life and a real headphone jack and miniUSB port for charging, doesn’t take away from its appeal.
If you’re on the Cingular network and you want a stand out, the BlackJack is a terrific choice.
