Eighteen buttons (including the d-pad). That's right, the Cingular 8525 has eighteen ways to not use the stylus. And that means almost all tasks can be accomplished without ever removing the stylus from its silo. The biggest helper? The scroll wheel located on the upper left hand of the device. The XV6700, in comparison, has fourteen inputs, but no scroll wheel. And let me tell you this, a scroll mechanism is very, very handy indeed.
I still have a tendency to use the touch screen when I don't want to scroll through a huge list (or am web surfing), but have found that the tip of my finger is faster than removing the stylus in those cases.
By default, you can't program all these buttons, but there is a group (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279585) working on an application that allows you to change the default settings for even the currently useless PTT button.
