One thing I've noticed since using the Cingular 8525 that I haven't heard much talk about is the amount of interference it generates. My XV6700 is bad, but the 8525 puts it to shame. Every time a data connection is made, any nearby speakers (that are attached via cables) will begin to buzz, pop, and hum - and quite loudly.

What does this mean for me? It means that I have to leave the phone in my office at night, or insure that that any speakers in the bedroom are turned off. A humming wake-up call at 2am is not an enjoyable experience...

Anyone else seeing this same issue?

I had the 8525 for a few days, and found the buzz issue to be less than, say, the HTC Star Trek. That must mean that your XV6700 was very strong.

A lot of people are complaining about this issue over on Howard Forums! And it looks like you have it easy Tim. Many are saying it's not the external speakers that are buzzing but the 8525 itself!

Some have complained of actually walking down the street, with the 8525 on their belt or in their pocket, no where near an external speaker and having the phone emit an ear splitting buzz every time data is transmitted!! Others are getting woken up in the middle of the night by the annoying, irritating buzzing.

This buzzing issue affects not just 8525 but TyTNs as well. Seems like HTC rushed the Hermes series to market without proper speaker shielding...

You should head over to Howard Forums and see the complaining for yourself. It's not pretty...

The BlackJack has it bad too ... Not quite as bad as the 8125 I had, but it's still pretty horrible. As a general rule of thumb I turn off any speakers around me when the phone is within about 10 feet of them.

Thanks for the tip FallN. I normally haunt the Verizon side of the Howard Forums.

I don't get any buzzing from the unit itself, but I do have the speaker buzz (and therefore have to be careful of it's placement).

Hmmm, what buzzing? My Motorola Q doesn't seem to have this problem. I just put it on top of a computer speaker and made a VOIP call to that computer. I didn't hear anything untoward.

The Q's backlit keyboard does make a slight buzzing sound, but I can only hear it if it's next to my ear.
