Back in late December, we commented (http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=3972) on the upcoming Samsung i760 CDMA (with EV-DO) Pocket PC phone, which is to run the Crossbow operating system. Engadget was able to get their hands on what looks to be close to a production unit of the device. Akin to the HTC Libra, the i760 will have numeric buttons on the front, plus a full QWERTY keyboard. For all of the images (albeit blurry), click here (http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/06/samsung-i760-hands-on/).
I think the device looks quite ugly with the numeric buttons on the front - they're slanted for some reason. What do you think?

I think it looks distinctive. The slanted buttons and offset d-pad will make it stand out (or, as the kids say, give it some flava).
Whether I'd actually like it in use is another issue, of course. I'll certainly check it out once Verizon gets it.

i liked the look of the original pics more, but will reserve judgement until i see it in person. there are plenty of devices that aren't photogenic. i believe they slanted the number so that they are easier to view in both portrait and landscape views (a compromise if you will), instead of making harder to read in landscape. the layout may have more to do with ease of use rather than aesthetics.

I thought that it was to make the dial pad usable in both portrait and landscape, too, but realized the keys wouldn't be in their "natural" positions in landscape mode. Yes, they'll be easier to read, but you'll really need to look at the keys in landscape mode to avoid pressing the wrong ones. And I suppose that could be the point -- if you have to look at them, make them easier to read.
