Big things are happening over at WebIS (http://webis.net/).

The #1 selling PIM replacement for Windows Mobile, Pocket Informant (http://webis.net/products_info.php?p_id=pi), is undergoing a significant overhaul, and will soon be released as Pocket Information Evo, or PI v8.0 for short.

What's new? Here's a preview:

One code base between both SP and PPC versions for a scalable user interface
Redesigned menus and settings
A new "role based" layout, so that you can set PI work in full-blown advanced mode, or have it scale it back to "Pocket Outlook with Benefits"
Two new views: events and journal
Finger/smooth scrolling (for PPC)

Alex Kac, President of WebIS, has given pocketnow.com exclusive access to the Smartphone version of PI v8.0. I've been using it on my BlackJack for two days, and so far I'm impressed. Pocket Informant for Smartphone (http://webis.net/products_info.php?p_id=pisp) in its current iteration isn't very robust - it's like PI "lite". The new version has a feel closer to that of the Pocket PC version, which is far more powerful and customizable.

In my test version, a good chunk of the functionality isn't yet finished, so I cannot comment on the new features (such as roles and customizations).

For your viewing pleasure, here are some screenshots of PI Evo for Smartphone. From top to bottom we have the view chooser, week view, and month view.

Does this mean the PI for Smartphone will no longer be re-branded SBSH Papyrus? Are they going in separate ways or is SBSH somehow involved in this as well?

This is the full of PI designed for Smartphones. It is no longer the rebranded SBSH Papyrus.

Also it is important to note, the screenshots above denote an early alpha release. *Many* suggestions and feedback we've received from internal beta users and Brandon above have been incorporated in the past week.

So the above is just a taste and of course a bit of an announcement for Smartphone support.

It looks like they have made it very similar to Agenda One. It will be interesting to see if anything is different or another variation.
