Member v3patel over at XDA-Developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309837) has created a program to quickly assign ringtones to contact categories. This should be a time saver for some users who want to assign the same ringtone to all contacts within the same category. The program is fairly easy to use, however, there is a restriction on where you must place ringtones. Head over to XDA-Developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309837) to download the application and post here to tell us what your user experiences are.

Finally a great solution for one of the few things I still miss from an old Motorola phone :o ... Category ring tones.
I've been trying it for the past hour. It's still got a couple of bugs but with simple tweaking you can make it a great must have. Unlike your typical solutions like Ringo Mobile, this isn't a software that jumps in when your contact calls, which, at some point in time, with strong memory usage, just doesn't jump in on time.
This one actually goes to every one of the contacts you categorized with, what have you, "Business" and changes every individual's personal ring tone to the one you chose. This does take a bit of time, but if you think about it, you'll probably only do it once and later just modify the ones you add instead of using the app again. As for the bugs:
1. I tried it on my WM6 Herald and it didn't create the programs short cut. To solve this use your file explorer and go to /Program files/VipRIngCab and hit copy over the VipPimRingTone.exe. Later, go to /Windows/Start menu/Programs and paste it as a short cut, and get rid of the excess "shortcut" text on the file with a rename.
2. Though people believe it doesn't support a storage card, it actually does. Just make sure you copy your mp3 ring tones to /Storage Card/My Documents (if not there, create it). Once in the app, on the Folder drop box tap the ... icon and you'll find your mp3 ring tones. Just tap on any of these and it automatically activates the storage card folder for the Ring drop box in the app and there you have it... :D.
Definitely a must have once you get the hang of it. Some of us have already posted these bugs on XDA-Developers and hope this stops being an issue soon. I just hope the author finds the time to consider a Picture Category option for all those contacts we still don't have a caller ID pic for  . I'll keep toying with it to see what more I find.
Cheers

Thanks, sagitario, for the feedback. You are right that this doesn't bog down memory like other programs for ringtone, which is great. Especially since Windows Mobile 6 (Professional) already has so many memory leaks, this program definitely helps to conserve!
