One shortcoming that has always plagued Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition devices was the ability to back up SMS messages. The backup function was actually removed from ActiveSync around this time probably because even Microsoft couldn't figure it out. Now there are a number of backup programs that will do it right, but the Jeyo Mobile Companion (http://www.jeyo.com/companion.asp) was the first that could reliably backup and restore all of your text messages. It's also a great desktop program for managing text messages, call history, and phone contacts. Now version 2.0 is available and it brings a few new features:
Full Vista and Windows Mobile 6 compatibility
Support for user-created SMS subfolders
Desktop customization of your phone's audio notifications and visual themes
Support for exporting your phone's data to the flexible XML format
You can download a free trial or purchase from Handango (http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&osId=951&jid=476F4447FF2F23BE41F38FF52B5C1975&N=4294916937&Ntt=companion&R=120009&productId=120009) for $19.95.
The previous version was unable to restore a backed up call history to a phone that was hard-reset. No word yet on whether that was fixed.
