View Full Version : My Computer Crashed Today...

I woke up this morning to my computer stuck at the screen "Windows Has Failed to Start" with a choice of Safe Mode, etc. Choosing any of these options caused the computer to restart.

I went out for the day, and came back, hoping to resolve the issue with the Vista Repair console after booting . No such luck, it didn't find anything.

To make a long story short - this is my fault. Every time my computer boots up, I get a listing of my drives. I have two drives in RAID 0, and one for storage. Listed under one of the RAID 0 drives was the text "Problem Occured." I ignored this for weeks, thinking that the error couldn't be serious if my computer was operable. I should have taken the warning seriously. I'm using 10,000rpm Raptors; apparently they have a smart chip on them that can sense impending problems.

I have backups of almost everything - the annoyance now is setting up everything to the way it was before.

Moral of the story - don't ignore your computer when it waves a red flag. And as always, backup backup backup!

Sorry about the computer, Brandon. I know it sucks to configure everything all over again.

Heh - I backup through Mozy (http://www.mozy.com). It's a good service...low cost, unlimited backup, automated.

Nothing can beat using a ghosting program to take an exact image of a drive. That's a huge time ****r.

Wow, I wonder who the third person is going to be *hint everyone back yourstuff up now*

I recently restored a very nice laptop after 2 yrs of shelf dust only to have the motherboard short out....I had just finished getting it all up to date and everything.

Naturally I began wondering about backups for my other systems. I'm glad you mentioned Mozy now I don't have to spend time finding a backup place.

I am going to try out the Free Mozy first to see if I like it. Then I'll cough up the big bucks $4.95 a month to do the whole machine

Thanks Brandon!
