I have an Orange SPV M3100, which I understand is a branded HTC phone. I am trying to use Google Maps on it in conjunction with a separate GPS receiver (Navicore Sirf III). Google says that I need the GPS function of WM5 and that there should be a GPS icon in the program folder, but there isn't. Any idea how I can fix this please? Thanks!

Unfortunately Google only works with the Windows Mobile intermediate GPS driver which was included in the later version of WM5 and is part of WM6. I would contact Orange to make sure you have the latest version of the firmware for the SPV M3100. If you do, I would then check out the xda-developers (http://www.xda-developers.com/)forum, they might have a download for you. And if you live in the UK I would use Microsoft's Windows Live Search (see my comparison on pocketnow (http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=1000)).

Actually, there is another way to use the GPS. I would setup a bluetooth partnership with the GPS device. Once that partnership has been setup, you manually have to set the Outgoing COM port. Go into the Bluetooth settings and you will see a tab for COM Ports. You should have an option to create a new outgoing port. Click on that and pick a COM port number. I normally use COM2. Also, make sure the secure connection box is unchecked. Otherwise, you will have to enter the GPS' passkey everytime you want to use a GPS application.

Next go back into Google Maps and goto Menu\Options\Track Location Settings. In here, check the Set Manually radio button. Directly underneath this, you will see a dropdown box. Set this to the same COM port number you picked for the GPS unit (In this example, COM2). Then set the baud rate, about 9600 should be fine. Then click ok. This should get the GPS function on Google to work. Hope this helps!!
