I spotted this over at Jason Langridge's Weblog (http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2007/11/15/nokia-phone-history.aspx) and found it to be interesting. He points us to a comprehensive visual timeline (http://www.idiottoys.com/pics2/all-nokias-ever.jpg) of all Nokia devices that have hit store shelves over the last 25 years or so. The image is 2900x2100 so expect to do some four-way scrolling.

This is pretty cool. Reminded me of my old Nokia 232 I purchased when Verizon Wireless used to be Bell Atlantic/NYNEX Mobile. I remember that was one of the "it" phones back in 1994.

It's was also cool to see my old Nokia 8290 I bought in 1999. That was an amazing small phone with pretty good quality on T-Mobile's network. The only problem that phone had was the screen would literally die in about 3 to 6 months. That's what happened to my first one. T-Mobile replaced it and even acknowledged the problem. They also said it would most likely happen again on my replacement 8290, which it did. So I finally replaced it with a different phone much to my dismay.

Lastly, I remember lusting after the Nokia 8110, the very slick slider most people will remember seeing in the Matrix. After strolling through my little techological trip to the past, I'd be curious to hear about what phones from Nokia did any other readers may have had and why they bought it.

My first phone ever was a Nokia 250 (namps analogue) back in 1998. It's just too bad I don't see it on the timeline. It was a cheaper version of the 252 with a flip added to it. Comparing it with the then small Motorola "brick"-otac, my Nokia was very small:D. I fitted it with many leather covers, a vibrating battery (because vibracall wasn't built in yet) and an adapter for wired handsfree communication since a 2.5 audio jack wasn't built in either. I later upgraded to a 252 which I bought in silver and I also don't see in the timeline. They were almost the same phone and that allowed me to use the same vibrating battery and handsfree on it. My last Nokia was a 282 clamshell. I remember it was their first ever, and though fragile, it's dotmatrix (I don't remember how many bits) display would beat the popular Motorola Startac 3000 which only had a colored 1bit display back then.

Good old days!
