Gizmodo (http://www.gizmodo.com[/url) has gotten some personal time with a couple of pico projectors at CES and the results aren't too bad. The better of the two is made by Microvision, although the Texas Instrument-manufactured diminutive projector isn't all too shabby either.
The Microvision projector has a resolution of 848 by 480--DVD quality--and can be projected onto curved surfaces with clarity. You can get the Gizmodo video of the action here (http://gizmodo.com/341927/video-microvision-pico-projector-throwing-ipod-videoon-some-dudes-back).
The Texas Instrument pico projector demo can be seen here (http://gizmodo.com/341927/video-microvision-pico-projector-throwing-ipod-videoon-some-dudes-back).
This is really neat technology for business people who have to make presentations and don't want to carry a large projector around. Now, instead of carrying a regular projector and a laptop, you can just carry your handheld or smartphone and a pico projector. In your downtime at the hotel, maybe business users can also watch a DVD projected to a hotel wall. This makes sense if you're in a hotel room in a foreign country and all the channels are in another language.
To find out more about the technology, which can be a separate standalone projector or embedded into a mobile device, you can visit the Microvision homepage here (http://www.microvision.com/pico_projector_displays/index.html). A video of the technology in action can be found here (http://www.microvision.com/video/elevator.wmv?autoplay=1). It's more of a sales/promotional video, but it will give you an idea of the projector's size and use.
