First off, AT&T is going to begin imposing a soft 5 GB data limit per month in terms of unlimited data use according to some leaked slides from Engadget Mobile (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/01/10/atandt-retooling-data-plans-hint-buh-bye-unlimited/). Data Connect, PDA and BlackBerry plans with tethering plans will remove the word "unlimited" and be substituted with the 5 GB limit. This is to align themselves better with competitors. Verizon Wireless still uses "unlimited" in their marketing, but I think the cap there is 3 GB of data per month. AT&T will not charge overages if you go over their soft 5 GB limit, but they do reserve the right to take you off of the data plan in the future.

Second, unlimited email and texts will be priced at $35 for the Media Max Unlimited instead of $39.99. PDA plans will be priced at $30 (down also from nearly $40). Unlimited internet via Media Net Unlimited on non-PDA phones is now only $15.00 (down from nearly $20).

Traditionally, AT&T had made the distinction between a PDA Phone's unlimited data plan at $40 and a SmartPhone data plan for cheaper with the standard of if the device included a full QWERTY keyboard. This caused confusion as the BlackJack was originally called a "Windows Mobile Smartphone" because it operated on Microsoft's Smartphone platform, now called Standard. AT&T would have placed the BlackJack into the PDA category for data pricing because it had a full QWERTY keyboard despite that it operated on the WM Smartphone platform.

And finally, AT&T will no longer be selling Windows Mobile devices without QWERTY keyboard. The slide makes reference to Windows Media, but the guess here is that they meant Windows Mobile. This pretty much eliminates any chance of the HTC Touch coming to AT&T, nor the LG KS20 (Windows Mobile Prada Phone).

Existing offers for data will expire on January 22, 2008.
