Does anyone else wonder what happened to the HTC Erato (http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=727), which was slated to be an evolution of the HTC StarTrek (http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=834). The changes for the Erato were to include a faster processor, double the memory, a larger screen, bigger battery, and 3G data versus the StarTrek.

It looks like this may be vaporware, which is a shame because the StarTrek was a really great phone, and one of the very few clamshell Windows Mobile devices to come to market.

If this story is accurate here (http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=4934), then we won't see the Erato on AT&T because it lacks a QWERTY keyboard. I know the original StarTrek was carried by AT&T.

I was hounding Haider about it and he said that I was the only one looking for that phone and that it was not on the road map for the next 3 months. So sounds like it's dead, which is unfortunate 'cause that leaves the old StarTrek as the smallest Windows Mobile smartphone, but it's too underpowered these days.

This really is a shame. It really would have made a good transitional device for someone going from just a cellphone to a PDA/Phone combo.

HTC may be abandoning WinMo while they're concentrating on Android. Here's what I say to Android. Meh.

Or perhaps they're using Android to just diversify their product offerings. WM devices makes up most of their revenue.

According to this interview with the CEO of HTC (http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/10/the-engadget-interview-peter-chou-ceo-of-htc/) it sounds like Android is only going to be for the low-end phones. They're not changing the relationship with Windows Mobile at all.

The Pantech PN820 is pretty small, too, but it's CDMA.
