Although the new Toshiba G710 unveiled in Italy tops out at EDGE speeds for data access, the phone is a true world phone with quad-band GSM/EDGE capabilities. Traditionally, Toshiba phones have been tri-band GSM/EDGE with single band UMTS/HSDPA that is not North America capable, meaning the frequency/band for North America has been left off.

According to the Unwired View (http://www.unwiredview.com/2008/01/18/toshiba-portege-g710-gps-pda-phone-presented-in-italy/), here are the specs for the G710:

-Quad band GSM (850/900/1800/1900), GPRS/EDGE
-Windows Mobile 6 Standard OS
-2.46″ 65K color QVGA display
-2 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom
-Built-in GPS
-128 MB ROM, 64 MB RAM
-MicroSD memory card slot
-Bluetooth A2DP, USB 1.1
-1100 mAh battery with up to 200 hrs stand-by and 180 min talk time
-Dimensions: 115×62x13 mm
-Weight: 130 g

For me, the device looks like a fusion between the keys of the BlackJack II, especially the control keys surrounding the directional pad, and the trackball of the newer BlackBerry models. The model doesn't boast anything particularly compelling over current or near-future models of WM smartphones out there.

I'm wondering if Toshiba has already updated their calendar to 2008? What's up with those low memory specs and USB 1.1 :(?
