Rogers is bringing a new, high capacity, tiered data plan to Canadian customers. According to Engadget Mobile (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/01/20/rogers-breaks-out-new-data-plans-canadian-jaws-drop/), the plans are available from $65, $75, $85, and $100 and will feature 1 GB, 2 GB, 3 GB, and 5 GB of data respectively. The good news is you can sign up for the $65 plan and if your consumption is 3 GB for a month, you will be bumped up to the $85. That means no per kilobyte or overage charges. The plans also include tethering.
Relative to larger American carriers, the plans are slightly more expensive. AT&T and Verizon Wireless have soft-caps for their "unlimited plans." AT&T has a soft-cap at 3 GB and the Unlimited DataConnect plan is priced at $60.00. Compared to smaller carriers like Sprint and T-Mobile USA, Rogers' plans are more expensive.

On Verizon Wireless, I'm paying $45 US for unlimited data (with a supposed 5 GB soft cap). That's more than slightly different from Rogers plans (unless the Canadian dollar dropped significantly recently :D).
And I still think $45 is too much....

Ouch :o; expensive. I pay $10.00 for my unlimited plan. I guess living in a third world country has some advantages . Yes, Edge, but cheap.

I pay $39.99 for my data plan with AT&T and it is expensive, especially since I am also paying for my wife to have a data plan on her 8525. I think Sprint has the pricing at the right place. I think their unlimited data plans start at $15 a month, then you can start adding other options like TV, music, etc.

Is that Sprint price for 3G? If so, that's great.
I think T-Mobile is $20 per month, and I think even that's fair. I realize Verizon is charging a premium for mobility, but I don't think mobile data should cost more than my 3 mbps cable plan.

Yup, that price is for 3G or Sprint's EV-DO service. Too bad that Sprint is going down the tubes. As for the cost of a data plan? Yeah I agree, my 3 MB/Sec AT&T DSL plan costs $24 while my AT&T wireless data plan is at $40 with a soft cap!! What's up with that?!?

I think the Verizon and AT&T plans everyone is quoting here is the PDA-only plan. Legally, the plans with tethering, which would be comparable to the Rogers plan listed on the news article, would be a bit more, making it slightly more comparable.

True, if you want tethering on Verizon Wireless, there's an extra $15 per month, which brings the PDA plan up to the same cost as the laptop plan.
However, if Rogers doesn't distinguish between PDA and laptop users, that's still a negative.
