I hope that this new advertising at the top of the pages won't exist too long. All I want to do is read the forums and instead of just getting to it, I have to stop and close the pop open ad, click on "new posts", close the ad again and then if I'm lucky I can finally read the information in the forums without the ad reappearing.

I realize that ad's pay the bills but this type of ad is just plain irritating and at least for me, doesn't get read because I'm too interested in just closing the stupid thing so I can read the information I came to this site to get. Can someone please explain why this type of ad exists?

Are you saying there were pop-up or pop-under ads here? I was on vacation when you posted this, but I haven't seen any before or after my vacation, so maybe they're gone.

I hate them, too. United Media (home of Dilbert, Pearls Before Swine and other comics) uses them and it's annoying as hell.

Steve

P.S. Don't get me started on "Intellitext" style ads, either. :)

They were pop-up ads for Circuit City and they stopped the day after I posted. Either I win the whine award and made them go away or the contract concluded. I suspect the latter.

I hope you had a good vacation and am glad you're back.
