We've been meaning to do this for a long time, but we finally ironed out the details with Jason Dunn of Pocket PC Thoughts (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com) , and we're ready to roll out our first chat series, held every Sunday from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM EST. If the chats become sufficiently popular, we'll add more times, especially for those of you who this time is when you are in bed!
Expect to see many big Pocket PC names and faces in the chats, and of course you'll find many Pocket PC experts who can answer all of your technical questions. We'll be giving away prizes once our chat sponsorships begin, so help us make the initial launch a grand success so we can get lots of special guests and plenty of neat giveaways!
Find out more about the chats and get ready for our first chat, scheduled for THIS Sunday, August 19th. Mark your calendars!

Jason Dunn also told me that he's going to be there. Should be a great gathering!

Sounds like a copy-cat idea to me, hasn't another site been doing this for a while now? Even during the same time of night just on a different day?

I'm going to be at the launch. But as that is already 1.00 AM for me, I won't make it to the complete chat. Monday is working day after all. I agree, a different time might suit European users better.
Mr. Unregistered: ...: you're talking about PDABuzz, aren't you? I believe they have their WindowsCE/Pocket PC chat on Wednesday, not on Sunday ( http://www.pdabuzz.com/Chat/ ) . As they have chats every evening when you can expect traffic, it's hard to pick a night that they're not active. Anyhow, take a look at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/archives/00000033.html . This is not a first for Pocket PC Thoughts. Originally for us this all came from an idea Diane Dumas ( www.pocketpcpda.com ) had to have global chats. She experimented with a Voice Chat at that time, but that software just was not mature enough. There once was an excellent chat (that I missed :-( ) in which John Psuik from Developer One answered questions, and he gave away prizes. Other sites that participated where Arne Hess' www.unwired-i.net, Adam Field's www.adamfield.co.uk and http://www.winceinfo.com/. Other sites linked to this chat as well. On http://www.unwired-i.net/chat/index.html you can read there even was a scheduled European chat time.
Chatting on scheduled times is not exactly new to this world, and I don't think Diane or PDABuzz invented it. It's just a cool thing, that more sites happen to do. :-)

Somehow my registration info skipped. The above was written by Marlof Bregonje , visiting from www.pocketpcthoughts.com. :-)

Well, I'm on with PocketChat and there's no sign of anyone! It's Sunday, 7:14pmEST, so what's up? Does PocketChat fail me, or did it get cancelled?

Oops. Thought the Delete function worked. Anyway, I got connected after a couple of sharp blows to the head with a rubber mallet, and sat through the next 2-1/2 hours. Fun, busy place. PocketCHAT is a bit jumpy, and [got disconnected a couple of times thanks to an apparent conflict between PocketCHAT and Casio's Mobile E-mailer. But all in all, a treat to be able to jump in with my PPC.
Amazing group of people there.

Gerard - It was a load of fun. So many great people with such interesting things to say... Chat is so much better than message boards! Anyway, the chat was a great success thanks to many... As for PocketCHAT... There was a new version released which has a major bug fix or two and added the chat's IRC server to the server list in the program, you can go check that out.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by. :)

I was looking forward to chatting with everyone real-time but I was using my desktop PC running IE5 with full javascript support enabled. On the main chat page, the connect button never activated.
Any ideas what I should try ?
Maybe we could set up a really small continuous test system so we could all try connecting before the real discussion.

I believe it does run continuously (it's on as I type this, and I'm not the only one there!). In fact, many people showed up before the scheduled start time.

Sorry--Philippe's chat server went down tonight. It should be perfectly fine for the next chat session.

I discovered pocketnow after doing a google search for info after buying my first iPAQ (I had 3 Cassiopeias previously). This forum has answered my questions 4 to 1 over the other forums that I found. Other forums have posted chat schedules, but when I attend nobody is there. I popped in to pocketnow chat a couple of times, had a good dialogue, and hope to attend regularly. Thank you to all involved for this great resource!

I know I will probably get flamed for my comments, but what the heck . . . too old to worry about it !
I tried out this "chat" room last Sunday and was a little disappointed. Actually it was kind of boring seeing all those users chat about non Pocket PC/Computer topics. I had mistakenly thought it was going to be a chat room about the Pocket PC not television programs.
When there was any chat about P/PC it was only about the iPaq. It seemed like if anyone tried to bring up another device, they were silently ignored and the iPaq users just kept on chatting. Felt like I was in a room for of Apple users or BMW owners.
I would not recommend it to any of my clients or friends.

Alright bombadil....what suggestions do you propose to remedy this matter?
Thanks for your feedback, though.
I tried to enter the chat and it wanted to download the Java VM which I said OK and got the message that XP no longer allows the download of the VM...
Please advise on what I should do...
Thank you.

I just ran across that situation. A friend sent me the Java VM no longer listed by Microsoft. It worked fine, but I use an IRC client to chat here, so the Java doesn't matter. I am sorry I missed Sunday's chat, but it was my grandaughter's birthday :)
