What on earth has happened to the discussion forums? It's all changed, and not for the better!

For instance, I'm typing this in an entry box that's about an inch wide.

They seem to me to be substantially the same as other discussion fora. YMMV.

I can't put my finger on exatly what's changed, but the whole look and feel of all the discussion groups here seems to have changed in the past couple of weeks.

I uploaded a jpg of my main discussions screen here.

Can you see how unadorned it looks. I'm sure it used to be more functional than that.

Ah, as I sort of suspected, I seem to be getting the 'Mobile Edition' on my desktop machine. I get to this screen even if I go via www.pocketnow.com and hit the 'Discussions' link.

Is this setting stored somewhere?

I do have pocketnow in my MobileFavourites list too??

I've just deleted all my cookies relating to pocketnow and the problem seems to have gone away. I'm back to the full featured discussion forums I know and love now ;-)

Looks like you've got some sort of bug there that's managing to switch my desktop browser into calling the mobile version of your site.

Any idea how this could've happened? Could it be something to do with the fact that I have pocketnow in my Mobile Favourites folder?

I'm still getting problems being redirected to the mobile version of the site from my desktop PC. Even if I delete all my PocketNow cookies, which cures it for a while, I eventually end up at the Mobile Edition of the discussion groups page.

What's happening?

Hey--are you using the Mazingo channel, jfrancis? Mazingo basically takes a link that loads the Mobile Channel style set. To at any point revert to the regular style set, just use the URL:

http://discuss.pocketnow.com/?styleid=1

We're putting up a totally re-built Mazingo channel this weekend which will take away this problem.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Yes, I'm using Mazingo. Interesting that Mazingo is conflicting with my desktop browser though. It would seem to indicate that Mazingo uses the same cookie store as the desktop, which I'm not sure is a good idea.

Do you have a direct URL I could use to get the Mazingo formatted content. I'm exploring other options and would like to get the PocketNow content in a PDA friendly format.

Thanks
JF

Thanks Jared. Now you don't happen to know the direct URL of the BBC News AvantGo channel by any chance do you? ;-)
