To help you understand our News Categories, heres a list with descriptions of what you'll find therein:

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/pocketpcsummiticon.gif Every so often we have a special event, like the Pocket PC Summit, for which we'll create a news icon and a special category to use for news about the special event. CES and CEBIT would be other such special events.

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/ceneticon.gif cenet - new hardware, software, or emulators written specifically for Windows CE.NET. If the brief is more about the hardware specifications of a device that runs CE.NET, you'll find it under hardware. If it has more to do with running CE.NET, it'll be here.

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/communityicon.gif community - other PPC web sites, fan fests, Microsoft job shufflings, and other items related to the people who make, sell, or write about PPCs. If it's about people, it goes here. If it's about things, it goes in hardware, software, or a more specific category. Does the HP/Compaq merger go here? If it's about the companies, it goes here. If it's about which PPC line will eventually win out, it goes in hardware.

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/hardwareicon.gif hardware - new hardware specifications, ROM patches (because they're specific to a particular manufacturer), customer advisories, new add-ons, and even hardware that may eventually impact or be added onto Pocket PCs.

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/multimediaicon.gif multimedia - hardware and software designed for audio-visual presentations, entertainment, or editing. Why a separate category when we already have hardware and software? Because multi-media is big enough to want to help people find the news that belongs here without paging through, say, new PPC specs.

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/networkicon.gif network - hardware and software designed for wired or wireless local area networking. Note that there is a separate category for wireless phones and wide area networking. Anything 802.11 or BlueTooth will be here. Anything GPRS, GSM, or otherwise cellular-related is in the wireless category.

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/softwareicon.gif software - applications, utilities, and programming tools as long as they don't fall into the multimedia, network, cenet, or wireless categories.

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/trendsicon.gif trends - sales or consultant group reports or stories that highlightcurrent or future possibilities for Pocket PCs. Converging technologies, like wireless, if it didn't already have it's own category, will be found here. A nifty, but relatively unique piece of hardware would go in hardware. When a number of companies start creating hardware for a specific purpose, an article that focuses more on that purpose will be here.

http://www.pocketnow.com/html/news/wirelessoutsideicon.gif wireless - cellular-related hardware options and software. Smartphone and PPC 2K2, Phone Edition information, of course, will be found here.

These categories may look a little arbitrary. Well, they are, but hopefully, they're also helpful to you in locating the information you want to see.
