Apples and Oranges kicks off a new sub-series today with a close look at spell checking options for those who opted for the iPAQ Pocket PC 2002 upgrade and were unfortunately not handed a way to correct documents without third part software. Have no fear: Chris Spera will help you to fill that gap in the upgraded operating system.
Read More: How Do You Spel That? I disagree with that last assertion on two counts.
First, even if you only consider Pocket Word, you could conceivably have the spell checking integrated into Pocket Word, but the dictionary creation might not be. So integration could be more than all-or-none.
Second, considering only Pocket Word seems short-sighted to me. The Pocket PC 2002 spell checker is also integrated into the Inbox, and if another spell checker isn't, that should count against it.
Also, I'd like a spell checker integrated into other Pocket PC applications, like Notepad and MSN Messenger (if I ever really use it). Even better would be integration into any programs (like AOL Instant Messenger).
Pocket PC could also integrate other features better. I certainly wish My Text was integrated into more than MSN Messenger and Inbox. (In fact, I wish Pocket PC included a SIP that handled text clippings.) Expecting integration of these features into all of the Microsoft applications isn't unreasonable, I don't think, and Integration scores should reflect these lacks.
